Harrisburg Academy is a regional resource in Central Pennsylvania. Our school adds an independent school choice to the educational fabric of the region. The more good educational choices in a community, the more attractive it is to employees and businesses.
As an independent school, Harrisburg Academy is in a position to try out new approaches, experiment, and share our successes with the entire community.
To help families afford an independent school education, Harrisburg Academy awarded more than $675,000, or 10 percent of our budget, in need-based tuition assistance in 2008-09 to approximately one quarter of our students.
Harrisburg Academy educates students to be civic-minded and active members of their community. Through the Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirement inspired by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, our Upper School students perform at least 60 hours per year of community service, In addition, students take part in:
• A day-long, school-wide, annual Community Service Day
• Two-and-a-half-week senior internships
• Visits by school groups to area nursing homes and retirement centers
Harrisburg Academy operates on a more than $7 million budget, much of which is spent in the greater Harrisburg region. We support local stores, vendors, banks, insurance and utility companies, and consultants. The Academy employs approximately 100 full- and part-time faculty and staff members. Our annual payroll is more than $4 million.
