Getting ready for school!
Hope you're enjoying the summer! Though we still have a
month before school starts, we ask that you download your child's
back-to-school forms
and return them to us soon. For your convenience, we've organized forms by
division. We're working hard to be ready when school officially begins on
Tuesday, August 28!

The
4 freedoms of independent schools
|
|

|
|
Independent schools
have a broader range of internal decision-making than most other schools.
This freedom to operate as they see fit is crucial to the ability of
independent school communities to achieve their missions. Head of School
Jim Newman sheds light on the "four freedoms" of independent
schools in his July all-school
letter.

Tell
your friends about IB
|
|

|
|
By now, you may have
heard the good news: Harrisburg Academy is an IB World School! That means
we'll be offering the highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma
Program in Upper School this coming year. The IB is an inquiry-based
curriculum that stresses global awareness and critical thinking and
writing skills. An Academy education in Lower and Middle schools is a
great way to prepare for the IB. If you have friends who may be interested
in this world-class education, contact us today!

Harrisburg Academy
recently was awarded a $10,000 grant from The Whitaker Foundation
Regional Program for our International Baccalaureate (IB) and Pre-IB
experimental science program. These funds will be used to purchase
state-of-the-art biology and chemistry equipment for the lab-intensive
work our students will be doing in the Middle and Upper schools.

Host
families needed!
|
|

|
|
Thank you to the
families who have opened their homes and hearts to international
students. These students broaden the educational experience for everyone
in our school community.
We still have a few
students who need homes for the upcoming school year. If you can find a
place for one of these deserving students, please contact Jessica Warren, Director
of Admission, today!

Auction...
already? YES!
|
|

|
|
Can you believe that
planning has already begun for the 2008 Blue & Gold Auction?! Unique
items that can't be found locally (especially wine, alcohol, and kids'
items) are always a HUGE SUCCESS. As you're traveling this summer and
something exotic or interesting catches your eye, please think of
Auction! Many thanks and safe travels!
