General Information
The Alumni Board is comprised of 15 to 20 members representing various class years, backgrounds, professions, and geographic areas, and residing throughout Pennsylvania and other states. The initial members of the council are serving various terms between 2 and 4 years.  New Council Members will serve 3 year terms.
Meetings are held three times each year--in the fall, winter, and spring.

We offer conference calling as an option for those Council Members who do not live in the region. However, if the need to attend events becomes necessary, Council Members are responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements. At this time, Harrisburg Academy is unable to offer reimbursements for expenses. However, expenses are considered tax-deductible contributions to Harrisburg Academy, so Council Members are encouraged to complete and submit a Volunteer Expense Claim Form. Furthermore, Harrisburg Academy has the capability for conference calling and offers it whenever appropriate and possible.

Qualifications
A member of the Alumni Council will be selected to hold the position based on his/her commitment to Harrisburg Academy and to the goals of the Alumni Association, distinguished personal and/or vocational achievement, and financial support of the Academy. Other desired qualifications include the ability to motivate individual members and committees; proven leadership in other organizations, associations, or clubs; the ability to set and achieve goals and objectives; ability to work as a team player. Council Members will be representative of the diversity of the Alumni Association membership. All persons who have graduated from Harrisburg Academy or who have been officially enrolled at Harrisburg Academy for a significant period of time are eligible for consideration for the Alumni Council.

Responsibilities
In accepting an appointment, Alumni Council members agree to fulfill the responsibilities associated with Council membership.

  • Regular attendance at Council meetings is expected to be a high priority. Missing more than one meeting in a given year is subject to evaluation. (Conference call attendance is acceptable.)
  • Contribute a financial gift annually to Harrisburg Academy. All Alumni Council members will contribute at a level appropriate to their capability as donors. It is important for Council members to set the example for all other alumni by participating financially in the life of the school. Council members are asked to consider including Harrisburg Academy in their estate plans.
  • Attend campus programs when possible, including Homecoming Weekend.
  • Assist with planning and implementing alumni programs in one's geographical area.
  • Serve on standing committee(s) of the Alumni Council and actively participate in the functions of the committees.
  • Exercise loyalty toward the Council and confidentiality regarding its internal affairs as discussed at Council meetings.
  • Seek out and encourage talented alumni for volunteer roles such as the Alumni Council, Alumni Council Subcommittees and Class Agent.
  • Assist the staff in identifying individuals for alumni awards.

  • Assist the Academy and the Alumni Office in identifying and implementing programming that will enhance the student experience at Harrisburg Academy, thus helping to mold more loyal alumni.
  • Become familiar with the programs and activities sponsored, organized, and coordinated by the Alumni Association and participate in them to the extent possible. Stay abreast of Academy news by reading alumni publications and other Academy materials.
  • Offer ideas to help make the Alumni Council and the Alumni Association more meaningful to the alumni constituency and initiate Council activities and initiatives.
  • Help the Alumni Relations staff evaluate programs and take initiative in informing them of opportunities for program development and/or funding.
  • Provide sensitivity and support to staff members and other Council members as they perform their duties.
