This is a team of sled dogs pulling a sled for the Iditarod race.
The Iditarod is also known as The Last Great Race. You might have heard of the movie Balto, this movie was inspired by the story of how the Iditarod started. In January, 1995 a deadly disease called diphtheria broke out in Nome. The only medicine that could cure this disease was all the way in Anchorage which was nearly a thousand miles away. It was snowing to hard for their best aircraft to fly so they had to turn to another form of transportation, dog sledding. A dog sledding race was held to choose who would be the fastest to get to the finish line. The winner of the race would be the one to carry the medicine through very bad weather, all the way from Anchorage to Nome. The first team to cross the finish line was a musher named Gunner Kaassen and his team of sled dogs. When they got to Nome the dog leading the rest of the team was Balto. Balto became known around the world. A year later to honor Balto a statue was built in New York's Central Park. In 1993 Balto died and his body was preserved in the Cleveland's Natural History Museum. An animated movie about Balto was made in 1995, it was a big hit!

This is a picture of the famous sled dog Balto

These are pictures of husky puppies. (Aren't they cute!?!)
