Predicitions are more than sci-fi, they teach
Back in the 1950s, scientists and sociologists predicted technological advances would make it easier for future generations of American women to keep their houses clean and shiny. Included in the list of modern developments: plastic houses that homemakers could clean just by rinsing with a hose. We're still waiting for that one. Not all of the predictions made over the years have come true, but they're still interesting and important to examine, according to Amy Miller, a teacher at Harrisburg Academy.

Marcie Boyer is deep into her first season as the field hockey coach at Harrisburg Academy. It might be just her first year of coaching at the high school level, but she brings a wealth of experience to the job. After a successful playing career at Northern High School, she played at the University of New Hampshire, then starred for two years with the United States national U-23 team.

MARKING TIME // Academy celebrates 225th anniversary
Harrisburg Academy is now celebrating its 225th anniversary, making it one of the country's oldest private schools. A program honoring another milestone – the 200th anniversary of the school's charter – took place in the state Capitol Rotunda. "This is a school that's really focused on the whole child," said Jim Newman, who's been head of the school for six years. "Our staff is committed solely to the children's learning, the advancement of their learning, and their social and emotional development."
Coaches embrace sport's PIAA affiliation
So what's the reaction to lacrosse becoming a varsity sport this spring after being just a club sport for so long? Harrisburg Academy boys' coach David Heisey said he and other coaches from schools such as Halifax, Cumberland Valley, Hempfield, Hershey and Elizabethtown always would gather at Angelina's Restaurant & Sports Bar in Wormleysburg and, over a couple of pizzas and pitchers, talk about their dreams of this day coming.
