Messages from School Leadership

Head of School, Jim Newman

I've always enjoyed American history more than any other field of study.  Presidential elections, in particular, are a favorite of mine.  For example, I thought the presidential primaries and the national election in November 2008 were exhilarating and fascinating.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching the electronic wizardry used by the major news networks to report "pre" and "post" primary election results, and ultimately, the race in general election.  ....Read more....

President, Board of Trustees, Tom Schmidt

A new decade, a new year, and - while more snow is promised - the forces that will give us spring are stirring.  This is the season for re-enrollment, and contracts for the 2010-11 academic year are in the mail.  I am pleased to report a particularly important re-enrollment: Jim Newman and I have signed his agreement to continue as Head of School for four more years.  ....Read more....

Triple Anniversary Celebration Update

Harrisburg Academy 2-color logoA Toast in Time Gala & Auction will soon be here and it will be a night not to be missed!  You should have received auction packets in the mail in early January.  There are many ways to support the Gala: donate to the auctions; advertise in the Memory Book; bid online; and attend!  We need parent and community support to make our annual fundraiser a success.  Deadlines for advertising and donations are fast approaching so make your commitments now.  If you wish to donate online, visit our auction page.  Questions?  Please contact Beth Zak.  Our event is a success because of you.  Thank you in advance for your support!

We're on Twitter & Facebook - Follow Us Online!

We like connecting with you... hearing your stories, discussion what is going on at school, reminiscing about past days at Harrisburg Academy, and more.  Be our friend on Facebook and follow us tweeting on Twitter... links for both are on the school's homepage.  We look forward to re-connecting with you, and helping you to connect with other Harrisburg Academy community members.  Questions?  Please contact Kristina Pae.

Announcement about Middle School Administration

From Jim Newman, Head of School

I am writing to inform you that Mrs. Jennifer Klemunes has decided to leave her position as Head of Middle School after the academic year ends in June. She wishes to work less outside of the home to spend more time with her new son. This change of command will not affect the 2009-10 school year in any capacity; however, planning for 2010-11 and the search for a new Middle School Division Head has already begun. Parent input is important, and we welcome your feedback in seeking candidates and making the best choice for our school.

Dr. Tom Banks, Head of Upper School, will lead the search for a new Head of Middle School. The search will focus on a full-time candidate with previous administrative experience. To ensure that our Search Committee and I understand the expectations of Middle School parents, Dr. Banks is preparing a parent survey for you to complete. When the survey is finished, the Search Committee will analyze the results and determine your collective expectations.

Jennifer Klemunes remains committed to making the remainder of this academic year a successful one for your student. Please join her by providing your continued support as we proceed.

Annual Winter College Fair

February 10, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Harrisburg Academy's annual Winter College Fair is next week!  All juniors must attend as part of the college prep class; sophomores are strongly urged to come, and everyone is welcome.  Click here to see an updated list of colleges attending.  Sophomores and others, please R.S.V.P. to Mrs. Roller, Mrs. Lauchlan, or Mrs. Barrett at the front desk.

This event is open to the public, so please pass this invitation along to a friend or neighbor.

Academy families attending the fair are asked to be gracious hosts and park across the street behind Perkins in the white lined spaces that belong to the Radisson.  This is not mandatory, just a request for those of you who will not be seriously inconvenienced by parking there. We are having our college representatives use the back parking lot, and guests from other schools in the front.
