Second graders are working to become fluent and expressive readers who enjoy different genres and chapter books.

Our second graders love to create and perform and can incorporate art, music, and drama in plays and skits to entertain and inform their classmates.

Students want to become important members of their class and like working with a friend or in a small group. Teaching the importance of caring for oneself and others takes on new meaning and builds a sense of community.

Second-grade learners are reinforcing their math skills by applying them to solve everyday problems. Increasing their computational speed is also a second grade goal. Science and social studies continue to be keen interests as they broaden their conceptual awareness in both subjects.

Acquiring the skills needed to write in cursive and apply this to creative and expository writing is a wonderful challenge during this busy year.
