Fourth Grade

Gathering data and learning to interpret it for meaning, putting information into their own words, and using technology to enhance learning are the foundations of fourth grade. In language arts, fiction, nonfiction, and news and magazine articles are read and discussed.

Fourth graders are eager to take on greater responsibility and abstract concepts.
Contributing to the whole group, learning to celebrate the successes of others, setting
goals, achieving and evaluating them are all part of the fourth grade experience.

Science becomes more explorative and in-depth study is made of the environment through the examination of hypotheses and experiments.

An overnight trip allows fourth graders to experience an environmental program with
classmates, bond with friends, and build warm and lifelong school memories.

In fourth grade, a culminating research project for the school year is the popular States Fair. Long after they “graduate” from Lower School and move onto greater challenges in Middle and Upper School, our students remember and maintain an attachment to their own state project. They enjoy visiting States Fair and are eager to see how other fourth graders construct their three-dimensional displays.

In keeping with this curricular focus, the fourth graders’ learning link is North America.
