School Lunch Policy

Lunch is an important part of the school day – a time for learning about proper nutrition as well as socializing with friends. At Harrisburg Academy, we want to ensure that all students have a safe, enjoyable, and nutritious school lunch experience. That’s why we have established the following set of guidelines:

  • Food and beverages are to be consumed only in the John Butler Davis Gallery or outside of the building.
  • No food or beverages may be stored in lockers or other student storage areas.
  • On most days second servings will be offered on a limited basis, in smaller portions, and until the extras of the entrée(s) are depleted. If students need additional food, we will direct them to the soup and sandwich option, the peanut butter and jelly station, and the salad bar.
  • We will stop serving seconds at 10 minutes before the end of each lunch period. This will ensure that all students have sufficient time to eat and take their trays to the dish room window before the end of lunch.
  • All sandwiches will be made on whole wheat bread unless students ask for their sandwich to be made on another type of bread (white or 12 grain)
  • 1% chocolate milk is offered only on Fridays.
  • Lemonade is offered as a choice seasonally only on Tuesdays.
  • Beverages for early childhood snacks include 2% milk, apple juice, and occasionally lemonade.
  • A cash-only breakfast bar is offered daily from 7:15 to 7:55 a.m. If school is delayed, the breakfast bar will not be offered that day.
  • Special nutritional needs that are medically indicated should be brought to the attention of the director of food services.
