John Harris Circle members are joining together to help Harrisburg Academy make its next leap forward and expand its reach to support more students and faculty members. Their leadership gifts provide unrestricted, current use resources that give the heads of schools and administration the flexibility to respond quickly to new opportunities and unexpected needs.
John Harris Circle members can designate their gifts to various areas of support. Such gifts, made annually to the Academy Fund, provide immediate benefits in the following areas:
Our faculty are the heart of Harrisburg Academy. Through their close interaction with students, they provide an extraordinary education and establish lifelong relationships. When asked to reflect on their time at the Academy, alumni inevitably share stories of faculty members who have made a deep impact upon their lives: “He taught me to write, the most important thing I ever learned,” “She is the one who fostered the passion for what I do,” and “In retrospect, most of what I’ve used in my life, I learned at the Academy,” are words heard time and again from alumni.
Gifts to the Academy Fund make it possible for the school to attract and retain the most dedicated and talented faculty for years to come.
High quality, unique programs and opportunities are central to student life at the Academy. Our students excel in the classroom and make a profound difference in the community in many ways. Examples of such unique programs include:
- The Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program in the Upper School which provides the framework for experiential learning and teaches the importance of providing service to the greater community.
- One-to-one computing program in the Middle School—which permits students to bring their own personal computing devices into the classroom. Teachers integrate the computing devices into their curriculum to create a differentiated learning environment that allows them to meet students’ individualized learning needs.
- The Learning Links program in the Early Childhood and Lower School divisions, where every grade is linked to a different continent. Through the program, our students develop a sense of “global mindedness,” a way of thinking about their place in and relationship to the world around us. Teachers develop curriculum based on cross-cultural comparisons and communicate often with contacts in other countries via email and video conferencing.
Gifts to the Academy Fund make it possible for the school to create and evolve programs to provide great academic opportunities for our students. Gifts also help to sustain an environment where the humanitarian ideals of our students take shape and come into reality. Helping the Academy support this growth and these initiatives is an investment in our students, the school and the greater good.
At Harrisburg Academy we are dedicated to supporting a student body that represents the diverse population of our regional and global communities. Gifts to the Academy Fund make a life-changing education accessible to students from all ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. Harrisburg Academy is committed to addressing the issues of access and affordability for each and every enrolled family. As a result, nearly 30 percent of students receive an award to help support their education.
