Bachelor's degree in early childhood education from University of Missouri

The Biggest Advantage to Teaching at an Independent School:

Having the freedom to develop, plan, and implement a curriculum that suits the needs of our students rather than being limited to teaching certain skills and topics that are dictated by administrators and/or politicians.  It is refreshing that we do not have to teach to a standardized test.

Why I Love Harrisburg Academy:

It is truly a community.  As a parent, I appreciate the closeness that my own children have with their teachers and fellow students. From a teacher's view, I try to ensure that students, families, and colleagues feel welcome, cared for, and valued and know that they respect and care for me in return.

A Memorable Moment at the Academy:

When my son, Hayden, entered a Mother's Day essay contest that was sponsored by a local newspaper.  The winner was chosen by the highest number of votes that the essays received.  All of the Lower School students and many parents and colleagues sent in votes for his essay.  That was the year that I was named Mother of the Year!  What a wonderful showing of support and care from our Academy family!

My Favorite Book:
This is a difficult question to answer, because I love reading historical fiction and mysteries.  However, as an Early Childhood teacher, I feel that I need to say "Tacky the Penguin" by Helen Lester.  It is one of the books that I most look forward to sharing with my students each year.
