The Biggest Advantage to Teaching at an Independent School:

At Harrisburg Academy, creativity is an intellectual process that is not stifled, but encouraged.  As a teacher here, I am often inspired to express my own creativity and to help students develop their creative potential.  I feel this often allows students to stretch their original thoughts and ideas.  They gain self confidence, learn to think independently, and develop a better understanding for new knowledge and information when they exchange ideas creatively.

Why I Love Harrisburg Academy:

I love that the students enter the classroom with a love of learning.  This provides the catalyst for teachers in every department to work together with students and parents to develop the "whole child."  The students are actively engaged in learning.  Their education is supported by caring teachers and parents, and they are challenged academically from the age three to 18.  I feel fortunate to be able to establish a building block in each child's development and work together in our family community.

A Memorable Moment at the Academy:

Many memorable moments come to mind.  I enjoy watching the 1st graders graduate from high school. I can see that each student feels confident that he/she has successfully completed a major part of his or her education and has the knowledge to go on to college.  I also enjoy having the opportunity of having previous students come into the classroom to read to students and help with community service projects.  It is nice to see that they want to be involved and they take pride in helping others.

My Favorite Book:

My favorite book is the book that each student publishes for Authors' day.  I love reading their creative and unique stories.  However, if I had to pick a favorite story it would be, "Over in the Ocean: In a Coral Reef," by Marianne Berkes.  The story is one that I would read to my daughters, and they would sing to the rhythm.  Together, as a family, we would create ocean scenes from polymer clay.
