The Biggest Advantage to Teaching at an Independent School:

Small classes make teaching a foreign language productive and meaningful.  Students have the opportunity to produce language on a daily basis in order to become proficient readers, writers, and speakers of their chosen language(s).

Why I Love Harrisburg Academy:

It's a wonderful community of learners and a terrific collegial environment.

A Memorable Moment at the Academy:

There are too many.  What ranks at the tippy top is the relationships I've established with my students, many of whom have enjoyed success not only as Spanish majors and minors, but as travelers and semester-abroad students to Spanish-speaking countries.  Their visits and notes through the years make teaching at Harrisburg Academy a joy.

My Favorite Book:
There are far too many books to pick a favorite.  "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles is a favorite because it embodies, for me, the themes of identity and the American experience.  I also love Carlos Fuentes' "Las Buenas Conciencias,"  which is like "A Separate Peace" -- a coming-of-age story documenting the identity struggle of class and religion in post-revolutionary Mexico.
