Harrisburg Academy has a proud tradition of enrolling students from across the globe, many of whom graduate from the Academy to pursue a post-secondary education at a United States college or university.  During the past ten years, more than 70 international students have studied at Harrisburg Academy from countries including Brazil, China, Denmark, England, France, Germany, India, Poland, South Korea, and Taiwan.  As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School with a multitude of opportunities for international students, we see continued strong enrollment of international and globally minded students in our Upper School.

Harrisburg Academy admits qualified international students in 9th through 11th grade.  To obtain a Harrisburg Academy diploma, students must spend a minimum of two years at the Academy and complete the required number of credits to graduate.  Qualified non-diploma applicants may apply for admission to the senior class.

To be considered for admission, students must have a successful academic record, superior TOEFL scores, and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English (we do not offer ESL).

Homestay Program

Most international students who join Harrisburg Academy’s high school program do so through a CSIET-certified program.  Whether through a local program coordinator or through Harrisburg Academy’s international student support staff, each international student will be placed in an approved, English-speaking American host family.  Students will also have health insurance and abide by the code of conduct for international students and in accordance with the school and community handbook.  Harrisburg Academy does work directly with overseas agents and consultants in order to enroll qualified applicants in our program.  Independent homestays can only be arranged with prior approval of Harrisburg Academy and if the student is living with a primary (natural) parent for the duration of his or her enrollment.  Homestay families, whether through CSIET-certified programs, Academy placement, or with natural parents, must also be aware of and comply with homestay rules and requirements.
