Emma H. '22 and Annabel H. '24 - Student AmbassadorsAs a student ambassador, how do you help welcome new students to the Academy community?
New students coming to the Academy need to know more about the environment more than the classes.  I think that while the parents may be very interested in the specific academics that the Academy offers, prospective students may care more about the environment and how the other students react to them.  This is important because if a child feels like he/she fits in, they might be more willing to come to a new school.

What have been some of your favorite field trips?
My favorite field trips were the field trip to New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Harrisburg Capitol in 7th grade (interviews for C-SPAN projects), and Camp Thompson (4th grade).  Also, another favorite field trip is an overnight one I took recently, to D.C., that had two college tours and three museum visits.  My favorite in-school memories are getting to do the C-SPAN project with my friends and winning third place in a video contest with two of my friends for a short movie we created called "Everston."

How are you involved in the Academy community?
In school, I am involved in MathCounts, Science Olympiad, and chorus. Outside of school, I play the piano.

How are you involved in the Academy community?  Outside hobbies or activities?
I swim, fence, go to science club, newspaper club, quiz bowl, and Science Olympiad.

How do you think the culture at Harrisburg Academy differs from other schools?
Everyone at Harrisburg Academy is different in their own ways, and the school is very culturally diverse.  There are so many different ethnic races and no one is made fun of for supporting or having a different culture.  At Harrisburg Academy there is also an International Night were you can bring a food from your culture and/or perform dances or songs in our auditorium.

What are some of your best memories/experiences at Harrisburg Academy?
I think my best memories at Harrisburg Academy have to be performing concerts, plays or musicals.  In everything Harrisburg Academy does performing-wise, there is a no-cut policy.  That means everyone gets to be a part in it!  So for chorus, when we perform the musical every year, everyone gets a part no matter if it is in the chorus or as a lead.

What do you bring to the role of being a Student Ambassador?
I bring a great representation of our school and the ability to talk to people and tell them what to expect when coming to Harrisburg Academy.

What do you see as the strengths of Harrisburg Academy?
Some of Harrisburg Academy’s strengths are how small the classes are so every student gets the individualized attention they need.  Also, all of the teachers are amazing and nice with tons of different teaching styles to learn from.

What have been some of your favorite field trips?
I think some of my favorite field trips have been when the 4th grade gets to go for two days to Camp Thompson.  We get to do many activities and learn a lot about friendship.  Some of my other favorites were definitely going to see some different art museums.
