The Explorer: Alumni
First IB World School
has happened in the recent months that brings great pride to
Harrisburg Academy and its alumni community: we welcomed home our
alumni for our second annual Alumni Weekend; we enjoyed a tremendous
performance from Luke
Bent '13 and Tami
Swartz '85 at our Distinguished Alumni Concert; Randy St. John
returned to the classroom to teach alumni; and we celebrated the
accomplishments of our Alumni Achievement Awards recipients and Athletics
Hall of Fame inductees.
Altogether, this year's Alumni Weekend was a celebration for our entire
Academy community, enjoyed by alumni, faculty, students, and parents.
It was great to see students interacting with alumni and asking
questions about their interests for the future. These valuable
connections benefit our students both in the here and now, and also as
they move forward with their education and careers.
Reflecting on the Academy's 233-year history, I think that the success of
this small school is due to its ability to continually reinvent itself
while remaining steadfast to its standards. The momentum that the
school is currently experiencing is due in large part to those of you who
stay active and involved. You have guided our students as alumni
mentors, you have given your time and your financial support, and you
have been our best representatives. I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you for embodying the remarkable achievements of Harrisburg
"We support the Academy
Fund because we are grateful to our Academy for providing an abundance of
opportunity that shaped our lives and helped to develop our
character. It gives us a great amount of pride to see the same
drive and passion that we received years ago, alive and making a great
impact on all the students here at our school today. Our alumni
network is our most valuable asset. Join us in supporting the Academy, just as the faculty and staff supported us in pursuing our
dreams and goals." - the Sourbeer Family

Alumni Weekend Inspirations and Recap
BUILDING RESILIENCE, THE
"COUNTER TO FAILURE"
by Courtney Hart,
Resilience, or a person's
capacity to cope with changes and challenges, as well as the ability to
"bounce back," is a skill that can be learned and developed.
The focus on the development of strong resiliency skills is well
worth the effort, as one of our alumni so simply and eloquently stated
last week at our annual Alumni Achievement Awards and Athletics
Hall of Fame Induction ceremony assembly -
"Resiliency is the counter to failure," he said. Read more...
