Dear Friends,

Over the past few years, I have spent a great deal of my time introducing current students to alumni and encouraging meaningful conversations about experiential learning and professional paths.

The next step is to actually help place young alumni with professional alumni, either through internships or first-job introductions.  A number of professional alumni have been in contact with the Academy, looking to forge these types of relationships, and we look forward to facilitating even more connections.

Many other Academy alumni and I want to help our young alumni launch their careers, develop their passions, or find a mentor.  If you are a professional and want to help a recent graduate pursue his or her career, please contact me.  If you, yourself are looking for career advice, please contact me.  Together we can build an engaging and rewarding alumni community.

Share Your Stories for the 2017 NewsMagazine

Did you enjoy your copy of the 2016 NewsMagazine?  With each edition, we rely on you to help us choose stories that are relevant and interesting to the entire Academy community.  For our 2017 edition, we are excited to feature a theme of public service (political office at all levels, philanthropic leadership, etc.) as we wrap up a year of big national elections.  Most importantly, we will focus on how three core skills taught at the Academy - reading, writing, and speaking - prepare students to be successful in these competitive occupations.

Do you or an Academy friend have a great story to share?  An epic adventure or a chance meeting with someone famous?  A notable accomplishment achieved in your profession or through community service that fits this greater theme?  If so, please be in touch with Kristina Pae, director of communications.

Recent Lunch n' Learn with Dr. Jennifer Shannon D.M.D. '02

Many Academy alumni return to the school to host Lunch n' Learns, which introduce current students to professional careers that interest them. Alumni are also proud to share the benefits they received from their Academy education. Recently, Dr. Jennifer Shannon D.M.D. '02 visited the Academy to speak with students about her career in dentistry. Jennifer earned a bachelor's degree in biology from College of Charleston, attended the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University, and is now a partner at Locust Lane Dental Group in Harrisburg. Thanks, Jennifer!
