Faculty and Staff Positions

Chemistry Teacher, Middle/Upper School 

Harrisburg Academy’s Middle and Upper School seeks an inspiring, innovative, and inquiry-driven educator to join our team as a Science teacher beginning in December 2019. The position entails instruction of and enthusiasm for multiple levels and disciplines of Science, including Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Additionally, this team member will serve as an adviser and may be asked to contribute to the broader life of the School through coaching and/or sponsoring extracurricular programs.

 

Faculty members at Harrisburg Academy work closely with students and parents to provide individualized attention in an emotionally safe environment while helping students to reach their full potential.

 

This individual will:


• Be a curious and collaborative lifelong learner dedicated to facilitating and encouraging the growth of students and colleagues.
• Provide meaningful instruction in Middle and Upper School Science courses using a variety of research-backed and innovative teaching methods.
• Collaborate with colleagues and work to build trust with students, families, and fellow Academy faculty and staff members.
• Establish and maintain a safe and positive learning environment while taking all reasonable precautions to protect students, facilities, and materials.
• Possess a strong character with an absolute drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the academic, emotional, and social needs of students.
• Motivate student learning and participation while ensuring the integrity of the academic experience.
• Reflect on one’s teaching practices through a combination of self-reflection and outside feedback.
• Employ excellent written and verbal communication skills, including appropriately using technology to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues.

• Follow and comply with written and verbal directions and expectations of the Middle/Upper School Director and Science Department Chair.
• Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry is required. Master’s degree is preferred. Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate program is an advantage. Requirements also include teaching experience and proficiency with technology. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Facilities Manger 

 Harrisburg Academy, a pre-school through 12th grade independent school located in Wormleysburg, PA, seeks immediate hire of a Facilities Manager. This full-time salaried position is responsible for the care and operation of the building and grounds. Duties will include oversight and monitoring of the operation of building systems including; HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security and fire. Supervision and training of the custodial staff to clean and maintain the buildings and grounds. Must be flexible in work schedule to meet the needs of the position.

 

Preferred Experience Includes:


• Experience with HVAC repairs
• General knowledge of electrical and plumbing
• High school degree or equivalent required
• Management of the purchasing of supplies and materials
• Management of personnel, building maintenance, and cleaning
• Budgeting and responsibility for budget compliance
• Good communications skills and attention to detail
• Maintaining a system of accurate records/files
• Must possess PC skills including common MS Office applications
• Must hold and maintain valid driver’s license
• Must pass all background clearances required for employment

Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000 based on experience

After-School Care & Supervision, Early Childhood/Lower School (Part-time)

Hours:Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

*additional hours during holidays and school breaks may be available

 

Position Summary
The Extended Day Program provides a safe, fun, and enriching environment during after school hours each day for Harrisburg Academy students, using both organized and open-ended activities as students transition between their school day and home.  Harrisburg Academy is a preschool-12 grade college-preparatory, independent school in Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania

 

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn
  • Monitor and maintain playground areas and other school areas as assigned
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and school faculty
  • Collaborate with co-teachers to plan and implement engaging age-appropriate activities for indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Regular communication with supervisors
  • Facilitate homework assistance activities
  • Prepare and distribute daily snack for EDP students

Qualifications and Experience

  • Enjoy working with children in a less structured environment
  • Ability to build relationships with families and coworkers
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Must Meet state specific guidelines for the role (clearances:  PA State Police, Childline, FBI, Act 24)
  • Basic computer/technology skills
  • Able to move, see, and hear well enough to keep children safe as well as engage in physical activity with children
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English - additional languages a plus
  • Responsive Classroom approach
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved
  • Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
