Administrator Positions

Head of School (Contract Start Date: July 1, 2019)

As a result of the planned retirement of our current head of school, Harrisburg Academy is seeking a new head of school who will provide strong leadership and strategic guidance in the development of the Academy’s advancement and development interests, working closely with an array of constituencies.  This individual will have the ability to clearly articulate the Academy’s value in a compelling way while helping to grow enrollment, expand planned and annual giving, as well as cultivate grant opportunities.  Click for full information about the position and process on our dedicated Head of School Search webpage. Part-time US History Teacher

Harrisburg Academy is a preschool through 12th grade college preparatory day school with the International Baccalaureate Diploma program as the capstone of the Upper School experience.

Harrisburg Academy is seeking a part-time (40-60%) secondary (grades 6-12) history teacher for the 2018-19 school year. The position entails instruction of ancient and world history at the 9th grade level, at a minimum. Preferred qualifications are an advanced degree in humanities or education with a minimum of two years of teaching experience, as well as familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme. Responsibilities include teaching two sections of 9th grade history, as well as the potential for some Latin instruction with appropriate qualifications. Coaching opportunities are also often available at the Middle and Upper School levels.


Faculty members at Harrisburg Academy work closely with students and parents to provide individualized attention in an emotionally safe environment helping students to reach their full potential and ultimately attend the natural fit competitive college of their choice. All current criminal record clearances and satisfactory references will be required.

Part-Time Early Childhood and Lower School Spanish Teacher

Harrisburg Academy is seeking a qualified person with high-energy and interested in global learning, technology integration and teaching in a Responsive Classroom® environment.  Preferred candidates would be certified to teach Spanish or experience teaching Spanish to younger students.  Teachers are expected to attend division meetings, a number of school events, and help with student supervision before and/or after school.  E-mail a cover letter and resume to LSPosition@harrisburgacademy.org. After-School Staff

Harrisburg Academy is currently accepting applications for both areas of our part-time after-school program (Early Childhood/Lower School-aged students and Middle School/Upper School-aged students).  We are seeking individuals who have a love of working with children. The position requires good communication skills, a sense of creativity and enthusiasm, the ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities, and the skills to work well with parents and community members. Applicants need to be at least 18 years old, are required to pass a full background check, and must be able to adhere to the school's dress code policy. Extended Day Program (EDP)—late August to early June, 2:30-6 p.m., plus special days

Located on campus, the Extended Day Program is a blend of recreational and enrichment activities based around a series of themes. Teachers / counselors who love working with children, demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, responsibility, and friendliness.  The Extended Day Program helps preschool through elementary school-age students develop both socially and physically through organized recreation and positive encouragement.  We provide a variety of structured and free-choice activities that promote individual and social development.  Daily favorites include crafts, games, and reading, as well as inside and outside play.  Please note that the EDP team also offers child care from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on days when classes are not in session (such as faculty in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, and some school breaks). 


After School Study Clubs—late August to early June, 2:30-6 p.m.

Study hall monitors ensure a safe, studious environment for our Middle School and Upper School Study Clubs (5th through 12th grades). 

 

Essential Functions for After-School Staff Members:
•    Supervise, monitor, and assist children ranging from 3 to 18 years old as they participate in a wide variety of after-school activities, both inside and outside
•    Organize and lead both large- and small-group games and activities that are age-appropriate
•    Clearly communicate and collaborate with all co-workers, parents, and participants
•    Maintain a consistent environment, which includes working as scheduled (flexible schedules are available during program hours)
