Faculty and Staff Positions


Director of Auxiliary Programs 


Harrisburg Academy is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to serve as our next Director of Auxiliary Programs. The Director of Auxiliary Programs is responsible for managing the business, financial, programmatic, and operational aspects of the auxiliary, after-school, and summer programs. The Director oversees the extended day program (EDP), which is inclusive of the Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School Study Club. The Director is also responsible for working with Lower School and EDP teachers to generate after-school and summer programming activities. The successful applicant will receive a 12-month contract beginning in August of 2020. 


Essential duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Manage the financial, business, programmatic, and operational aspects of the program. 
  • Oversee the program budget and payroll functions to ensure the fiscal health of the program. 
  • Work closely with the business office to ensure billing matters are handled in a timely manner. 
  • Partner with the communications office to advertise the after-school and summer programs and schedules. 
  • Collaborate to assist in the generation of marketing and promotional materials. 
  • Recruit, hire, and retain staff in conjunction with the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School and in compliance with school recruiting and hiring policies. 
  • Collaborate with division heads to provide staff development, training, and team building in alignment with the Academy’s overall mission. 
  • Schedule EDP and summer staff members. 
  • Schedule and communicate with external and internal vendors. 
  • Serve as lead teacher and administrator during EDP. 
  • Serve as lead camp counselor and administrator during the summer camp day, including on field trips. 
  • Lead EDP and Summer Camp staff meetings. 
  • Consistently provide high levels of customer service in a positive and professional manner to internal and external members of the community. 
  • Foster collegiality and positive morale among staff. 


Preferred qualifications include a proven record of: 

  • Competence in connecting with students and creating a healthy community culture 
  • Competence in connecting with parents 
  • Organized and purposeful about materials and plans 
  • Collaboration with faculty and administration 
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field 

Current State Police, Child Abuse, FBI clearances, a physical and a TB test are required. The deadline for cover letter and resume submissions is Friday, May 1, 2020. After-School Care & Supervision, Early Childhood/Lower School (Part-time)

Hours:Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

*additional hours during holidays and school breaks may be available


Position Summary
The Extended Day Program provides a safe, fun, and enriching environment during after school hours each day for Harrisburg Academy students, using both organized and open-ended activities as students transition between their school day and home.  Harrisburg Academy is a preschool-12 grade college-preparatory, independent school in Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania



  • Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn
  • Monitor and maintain playground areas and other school areas as assigned
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and school faculty
  • Collaborate with co-teachers to plan and implement engaging age-appropriate activities for indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Regular communication with supervisors
  • Facilitate homework assistance activities
  • Prepare and distribute daily snack for EDP students

Qualifications and Experience

  • Enjoy working with children in a less structured environment
  • Ability to build relationships with families and coworkers
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Must Meet state specific guidelines for the role (clearances:  PA State Police, Childline, FBI, Act 24)
  • Basic computer/technology skills
  • Able to move, see, and hear well enough to keep children safe as well as engage in physical activity with children
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English - additional languages a plus
  • Responsive Classroom approach
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved
  • Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
