Florence, Rome, Anzio/Nettuno, Paris, and Normandy

Spring Break 2019 // March 23-31, 2019

This trip will feel like a spring break (plenty of sightseeing, a slower pace, and we have an entire free day in Paris at the end!), but will also meaningfully connect to, not only the history they learn in the history classroom, but also our shared Academy history.  As part of our itinerary, we will visit two to three National American cemeteries – Sicily-Rome and Normandy, for sure.  At Sicily-Rome, we will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony in honor and memory of two Harrisburg Academ alumni, Joseph Ulrich '37 and Daniel Africa '41. Joseph Ulrich is buried there and Daniel Africa’s name appears on the Wall of the Missing.  At the Normandy American Cemetery, we will lay a wreath in honor of alumni, Robert Engle '39, who was killed on D-Day and is buried there.  Honoring our Academy alumni who fought for our country is a priceless opportunity that we look forward to sharing with the students.  This customized EF tour will be chaperoned by Lindsay Bowman and Richard Huy.  Open to 8th-12th grade students (classes of 2023-2019); 7th grade students (class of 2024) may request approval to attend.

Lucerne and Davos, Switzerland:  2020 Global Leader Summit

Summer 2020 // July 5-13, 2020

For centuries, sports have built bridges within communities and between cultures.  It’s just one way the world approaches wellness.  The EF Global Leader Summit, "The Impact of Sports and Wellness" will explore sports and wellness around the world, from what people eat and think to how we care for ourselves and stay active.

Join teachers and students from across North America and Europe in Davos, Switzerland for a weekend-long leadership conference happening July 10–12.  Hear from world-renowned speakers on The Impact of Sports and Wellness, attend expert-led workshops, and help students develop skills like creativity and collaboration as they work in small international teams to propose solutions to a global challenge.

Why Switzerland?  Against the backdrop of Alpine scenery, Lucerne offers the perfect combination of outdoor sports and wellness-focused activities.  Unplug while kayaking on picturesque Lake Lucerne, and relax in mineral baths—known to decrease stress and improve circulation—on Mount Rigi.
