Spring Break 2020

How can two cities that share so much history still have their own unique cultures and character? In bustling Barcelona step inside the playful and imaginative mind of Antoni Gaudí. In elegant Madrid the scene is just as artistic and lively, as you'll discover at the Prado (arguably the world's best museum) and during your very own flamenco lesson.  This trip will be coordinated by Monica Velasco.

Eastern Europe:  2018 Global Student Leaders Summit

Summer 2018

We joined teachers and students from around the world for a two-day leadership conference in Berlin, Germany. The theme of the conference was “The Influence of Technology on Society.”

Florence, Rome, Anzio/Nettuno, Paris, and Normandy

Spring Break 2019

This trip will feel like a spring break (plenty of sightseeing, a slower pace, and we have an entire free day in Paris at the end!), but will also meaningfully connect to, not only the history they learn in the history classroom, but also our shared Academy history.  As part of our itinerary, we will visit two to three National American cemeteries – Sicily-Rome and Normandy, for sure.  At Sicily-Rome, we will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony in honor and memory of two Harrisburg Academ alumni, Joseph Ulrich '37 and Daniel Africa '41. Joseph Ulrich is buried there and Daniel Africa’s name appears on the Wall of the Missing.  At the Normandy American Cemetery, we will lay a wreath in honor of alumni, Robert Engle '39, who was killed on D-Day and is buried there.  Honoring our Academy alumni who fought for our country is a priceless opportunity that we look forward to sharing with the students.  This customized EF tour will be chaperoned by Lindsay Bowman and Richard Huy.

Iceland: Glaciers and Geysers

Summer 2019

Take advantage of round-the-clock daylight during the summer in this otherworldly place of dramatic beauty.  Revel in the geothermal wonders of Iceland—Blue Lagoon hot springs, volcanic craters, and subarctic fauna.  From the capital of Reykjavík you will travel the popular Golden Circle to see Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area.  From there, continue on to the famous black-sand beaches of Vik and the Lava Centre in Hvolsvöllur.  This trip will be coordinated and chaperoned by Denise Hurst and Maureen Smith.

England: AP English Literature

Summer 2019

Visit the homes and hometowns that inspired some of the English language's most influential works.  Step inside William Wordsworth's former residence at Rydal Mount and explore the quaint cobblestone streets of Haworth, where the Bronte sisters penned "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights."  Visit Shakespeare's Birthplace and enjoy a theater performance and workshop.  This trip will be coordinated and chaperoned by Peter Frengel.
