Dominic Zhang

Lafayette College

Dominic Zhang '17International students face many challenges: they must be fluent in English reading and writing in addition to speaking; they must manage homesickness and navigate living with a host family; and they must be independent-minded and motivated learners. Dominic Zhang ’17 was a successful international student in all of these areas and a wonderful addition the Harrisburg Academy community.

Dominic came to the Academy in 9th grade, jumping into school and community activities — school musicals, Varsity Boys’ Soccer, Varsity Boys’ Basketball, Varsity Boys’ Tennis, Youth and Government, Academic World Quest and Quiz Bowl, just to name a few. He rose in the ranks to secretary of Tri-M Musical Honor Society, assistant editor for the Academy Insider student newspaper, and Student Council president. During his senior year, Dominic was recognized as a Carlisle Sentinel “Teen of the Week.” Dominic was known as an active leader within the Academy school community and a positive role model to younger students.

A strong and capable student, Dominic was offered admission to top universities such as Lafayette College, Penn State University, and Hobart and William Smith College, where he was awarded a $100,000 scholarship. In making his selection, Dominic considered internship opportunities available along with graduate school placement. He ultimately chose Lafayette College, ranked Most Competitive by Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges, where he will study astrophysics.

Dominic hopes to continue singing, playing tennis, and participating in Youth and Government activities.
