Senior Success Stories

Max Cherepinsky

University of Pittsburgh

“Coming to Harrisburg Academy in 10th grade made me work harder.  Señor Luckenbaugh helped make it a smooth transition,” said Max Cherepinsky ’17.  “We met a lot after classes to talk and improve on Spanish concepts.  He helped make me dedicated toward striving to do well in my classes.”  Max’s strong work ethic and subsequent success at the Academy led him to select the University of Pittsburgh, where he will major in finance and employ these same skills to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  Pitt is ranked as Highly Competitive by Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges.

Max considered Ithaca College and Drexel University but felt more comfortable on the Pitt campus.  “I liked the campus and the environment — the people, the city, everything is great.  Our college prep class at Harrisburg Academy was fantastic,” he added.  “It narrows things down to a specific point.  Finding out the cost, campus size, and what questions to ask counselors really helped me define my specific choice.”

During Max’s years at the Academy, he was a member of the Varsity Boys’ Basketball and Varsity Boys’ Tennis teams, and newspaper staff, and participated in drama productions.  Max led the Academy Quiz Bowl and BrainBusters teams as captain his senior year.  His knowledge about the state of the world and countries’ relations to one another led him to answering 14 straight questions about World War II during a vital BrainBusters match which propelled the team to finish in the top six of 39 teams.  Max hopes to participate in club sports at Pitt.
