Nisha Momin

Boston College

Economics

Nisha Momin '17After spending 15 years at Harrisburg Academy, Nisha Momin ’17 will leave Central Pennsylvania to study economics at Boston College.  Her top choices of BC, Villanova University, and George Washington University all have strong business programs, abundant internship opportunities, and extensive alumni networks, but when visiting Boston, Nisha felt a stronger sense of community and academic rigor.  Boston College is ranked Most Competitive by Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges.

Nisha was an exceptional student, earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma — the culmination of two years of rigorous coursework.  “Harrisburg Academy has taught me study skills and good habits to make me more academically responsible,” Nisha said.  “Through the school partnership with the World Affairs Council, I participated in the global scholars program.  It helped me decide what to study.”

“The Academy has prepared me well for college — I am more school-focused and have good time management skills,” she added.

During her time at the Academy, Nisha was involved in a variety of activities.  She played Varsity Girls’ Basketball and Varsity Girls’ Soccer, performed in school musicals, and was the president of the National Honor Society.  Outside of school, Nisha spent time volunteering at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and teaching ESL through Catholic Charities.  Her experiences with disadvantaged populations sparked a desire to learn more about other cultures and the cycle of poverty.

Nisha earned a Silver Medal on the National Spanish Exam and received the Kathleen H. Brown Award for the student who has studied both French and Spanish to level IV or V and demonstrates commitment to and enthusiasm for the culture as well as a solid level of proficiency in both languages.  Nisha hopes to participate in language clubs to continue her studies in French and Spanish.  She also hopes to continue ESL volunteering and participate in intramural sports, cultural, and business clubs — specifically focusing on women in business.
