Stella Kim

University of Wisconsin (Madison)

Computer Science

Stella Kim '17Joining a new high school community is a daunting prospect for any student, but international student Stella (Ye Na) Kim ’17 became acclimated to life at Harrisburg Academy in no time.  She joined the Varsity Girls’ Soccer team, Varsity Girls’ Basketball team, and Upper School band.  She also quickly connected with her classmates and became known by the faculty.

During her three years at the Academy, Stella was elected as secretary of the National Honor Society; she was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the VEX Robotics Club; and she earned an Amateur Ham Radio technician license.  She also made time for the yearbook committee and the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

When discussing the college counseling program at the Academy, Stella said, “Since I didn’t have to worry about sending transcripts and everything, I could focus on the essays and the most important parts of the application.  Mrs. Sabath spent a lot of time helping me find the best ideas to share.”

Stella’s freedom to pursue her passions and engage in varied activities at school helped her to narrow down her choice of colleges.  Stella will attend the University of Wisconsin (College of Engineering), ranked Most Competitive by Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges, and #69 on Forbes List of America’s Top Colleges, where she will major in computer science.
