Summer Expeditions 2018

Harrisburg Academy is pleased to offer another summer filled with friendship and fun, and we hope your student is ready to take the ride with us during Summer Expeditions Day Camp 2018.  Students from all schools -- not just the Academy -- are welcome to participate.  Summer Expeditions Camp features two distinct divisions of campers, Early Explorers (younger division) and Adventure Seekers (older division).

Register here for the entire summer, individual weeks, and/or to join the waitlist to be eligible for spots in the closed weeks (that may become available).  Registration will close for the current week on Mondays by 9 a.m.

About Day Camp

Located on campus, our Summer Expeditions Day Camp program helps children ages 4 through those entering 6th grade develop both socially and physically through organized recreational activities and positive encouragement. Campers gain self-confidence in a fun and caring environment that stresses creativity, initiative, teamwork, and fair play. Summer camp lets kids be kids, giving them the opportunity to strengthen existing friendships and create new ones. Summer camp includes trips to the pool, field trips to local venues (for our Adventure Seeker division), and on-campus field trips/visitors (for our Early Explorers division).  While on campus, campers participate in arts and crafts, games, and other activities related to the weekly theme.  While children are given the freedom they need for personal development and fun, day camp also gives their parents the all-important assurance of supervision and safety.

Early Explorers: For children entering Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten (ages 4-6)
Adventure Seekers:
For children entering 1st through 6th grade

Meet Our Camp Leadership

Thank you for your interest in Summer Expeditions Day Camp.  If you have any questions about our summer programming, please feel free to contact us; we can be reached via email or phone (email is the best method of communication).  Registration for our camp is handled electronically and is sent directly to the Academy via email.  If you are interested in any of our programs, we highly suggest registering early, as the most popular weeks of camp fill to capacity quickly.  We look forward to another memorable and fun-filled summer with your children!  Learn more about our camp directors below.

Jennifer Hricak — Director of Summer Camp

My name is Jennifer Hricak and I am looking forward to my 3rd summer as Director of Summer Camp. Working at Harrisburg Academy is my dream job because I get to apply my past experiences from the public and private sectors to building programs that strengthen Harrisburg Academy’s role in the community and that support the positive growth and development of our children. I am proud that there has been progress in implementing feedback from parent surveys. One of the most visible changes that we will see this year is the physical separation of Summer Expeditions into Early Explorers and Adventure Seekers to allow us to design activities that are more suitable for each age group, and to make our field trips for the older students more adventurous. I am excited to have Academy faculty join the Summer Expeditions team this year with Cynthia Maradiaga and Nick Christie serving as assistant directors. Also, our lead counselors for the Early Explorers are early childhood professionals who will be able to provide a solid experience for our youngest campers. In other exciting news, we have some returning favorites for our Summer Session MINI Camps along with some brand new offerings. As the current school year winds down, I am very excited for the 2018 summer programs at Harrisburg Academy!

Cynthia Maradiaga—Assistant Director, Early Explorers

My name is Cynthia Maradiaga and I am very excited to be the assistant camp director for the Early Explorers camp this year.  I have been a classroom teacher for three years, including this year as a Junior Kindergarten teacher at Harrisburg Academy.  During my summers in college, I took the opportunity to serve as a camp counselor for a nonprofit organization.

From my experiences, I can genuinely say that I enjoy building relationships with the children I work with.  I also enjoy planning activities that allow children to learn, grow, and have fun. It is so rewarding to see children smile as they discover the world around them and have fun doing it.

This year, we will be exploring different themes through songs, games, crafts, and visitors that will enrich the campers experience.  I am looking forward to a wonderful summer together!

Nick Christie — Assistant Director, Adventures Seekers

Hello!  My name is Nick Christie.  Many students either know me as Mr. Christie or Coach Nick!  I have been working with children for seven years.  I have been a swim lesson instructor, swim coach, lifeguard, ski/snowboard instructor, and a Soccer Shots coach.  These experiences have shown me how creative, fun, and energized children can be.  I enjoy supporting and encouraging children to try something new everyday, even if it's challenging.  It is my reward to see their expression when they realize they have accomplished a task or a goal.  I am very excited to be a part of Harrisburg Academy's Summer Camp and look forward to working with your children!
