Summer Expeditions 2019

Harrisburg Academy is pleased to offer another summer filled with friendship, fun, and adventure during Summer Expeditions Day Camp 2019.  Students from all schools -- not just the Academy -- are welcome to participate.  Summer Expeditions Camp features two distinct divisions of campers, Early Explorers (younger division) and Adventure Seekers (older division).

About Day Camp

Conveniently headquartered on our campus, Harrisburg Academy's Summer Expeditions Day Camp program helps children ages 4 through those entering 6th grade develop both socially and physically through organized recreational activities and positive encouragement. Campers gain self-confidence in a fun and caring environment that stresses creativity, initiative, teamwork, and fair play. Summer camp lets kids be kids, giving them the opportunity to strengthen existing friendships and create new ones.  While children are given the freedom they need for personal development and fun, day camp also gives their parents the all-important assurance of supervision and safety.

Summer Expeditions is a nine-week day camp with two divisions:

Early Explorers: For children entering Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten or 1st grade

Our youngest campers will stay active with crafts and games, as well as plenty of time for play. After a full day of friendship and fun, even kids who do not nap will have some quiet time to rest their bodies and get ready for the next adventure.

Adventure Seekers:

For children entering 2nd through 6th grade

Our 2019 schedule minimizes down-time by having campers rotate through activity stations that are led by some of our favorite seasoned teachers. Adventure Seekers topics include language and culture, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), character traits, writing workshop, classic camp crafts, and fun with active games.

Both Early Explorers and Adventure Seekers divisions can look forward to:

  • Structured activities led by teachers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Early drop off starting at 7 a.m. and late pick up until 5:30 p.m. at no additional charge
  • Pool time on Mondays and Wednesdays (weather permitting)
  • Off-campus field trips to local venues on Thursdays (Note that July 4 falls on a Thursday, so there will be an in-house field-trip Tuesday, July 2 instead.)
  • Crafts, games, and fun related to the weekly theme

Adrienne Davis - Interim Director of Summer Camp; Director, Adventure Seekers

I have just finished my 13th year teaching – 5th at Harrisburg Academy where I’ve taught general music, Kindergarten strings, three bands, and direct/produce the fall musicals. I have been the music leader at my church’s vacation bible school program for several years, and I used to love going to summer camp when I was in school. I am super excited to expand my summer camp experience with the Summer Expeditions program!

Cynthia Maradiaga—Assistant Director, Early Explorers

My name is Cynthia Maradiaga and I am very excited to be the assistant camp director for the Early Explorers camp this year. I have been a classroom teacher for four years, including this year as a Junior Kindergarten teacher at Harrisburg Academy. During my summers in college, I took the opportunity to serve as a camp counselor for a nonprofit organization.

From my experiences, I can genuinely say that I enjoy building relationships with the children I work with. I also enjoy planning activities that allow children to learn, grow, and have fun. It is so rewarding to see children smile as they discover the world around them and have fun doing it.

This year, we will be exploring different themes through songs, games, crafts, and off-campus field trips that will enrich the campers’ experience. I am looking forward to a wonderful summer together!
