Spartan Summer Camp Mission Statement
Harrisburg Academy's proudly offers Spartan Summer Camp to prepare children for life through experiential learning, creativity, and curiosity. We create a safe and secure school environment promoting social and academic growth encouraging enthusiasm for learning, a positive self-image, social skills, and cross-cultural understanding.
 

Summer Programming

Even though school is not in session over the summer, Harrisburg Academy is still a busy place! We are thrilled to offer seven weeks of exciting programming this summer through our Spartan Summer Camp which features fun and engaging experiences for every student from pre-school through grade 5. Spartan Summer Camp provides each camper a wide-range of opportunities to grow and explore the world around them. All campers establish strong connections while learning more about collaboration and respect during fun-filled, age-appropriate activities!

Students will:
-Nurture creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking in our academic program
-Build confidence and sharpen their playing skills through our sports program
-Develop social skills and explore our local community through group activities
-Establish friendships and create lasting memories

Interested in learning another language? Or perhaps developing science and engineering skills? We have something for everyone through our Summer Session: MINI Camps and Classes!  MINI Camps and Classes are week-long enrichment opportunities, offered in half-day sessions.

  • Mandarin Camp

    This opportunity is available for students entering grades 1-5 and will take place from June 19-23 and June 26-30 from 9-10 a.m. daily. Students will need to purchase a copy of this textbook as part of the class.
    Cost: $120 for the two week session

    Objectives:

    This course is carefully designed to engage all levels of Mandarin learners in a fun, safe, and engaging environment. The course will focus primarily on learning the basics of Mandarin. Besides language learning, students will participate in various cultural activities, such as calligraphy, water painting, arts & crafts, and Chinese sports. 

    Learning Content: 
    • Students will learn to count, use daily greetings and correctly identify members of their family in Chinese.
    • Students will be able to tell names, age, introduce themselves and know the words for animals, colors, food, and drink.
    • Students will learn to recognize 30-40 Chinese characters.
    • Students will learn about Chinese culture and etiquette.

  • French Exploration Camp

    This opportunity is available for students entering grades 4 and 5 and will take place from June 19-23 and June 26-30 from 9-11:45 a.m. daily. 
    Cost: $200 for the two week camp

    Bonjour à toutes et à tous ! (Hello, everyone!) Do you have an interest in learning about world cultures and traditions? Would you like to learn some basics in a new language? Have you ever tasted traditional French dishes? If you answered “OUI” to any or all of these questions, French Exploration Camp might be the perfect fit for you! French Exploration Camp is for curious and globally-minded fourth and fifth grade students!                                                                                                                   Over the two weeks, students will…
    • Learn how to introduce themselves, how to talk about their hobbies, and more en français!
    • Explore some important traditions in the French-speaking world!

  • Reading Club

    This opportunity is available for students entering grades K-1 and will take place from June 19-23 and June 26-30 from 9-11:45 a.m. daily. 
    Cost: $200 for the two week camp

    Reading Camp will engage students in fun reading activities such as read-alouds, text related art activities, partner reading, and book talks. Snacks will be provided.

  • Little Einsteins, Week 1

    This opportunity is available for students in Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten and will take place from June 19-23 from 9-11:45 a.m. daily. 
    Cost: $200 (includes snacks, materials, and a backpack)

    Little Einsteins is an enrichment course for Early Childhood students who miss out on education/leisure activities in the summer. This course is a hands-on learning experience that focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and literature. Students will build on three learner profile traits that frame the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum while exploring diverse disciplines. Each activity is designed to help children develop their creative skills, as well as 21st century skills such as problem solving, communication, and collaboration. Little Einsteins will help students develop connections and become lifelong learners.

    To prepare for the coming school year, students in Kindergarten and first grade are invited to participate in an exciting math enrichment program. The purpose of this camp is to engage in critical thinking and problem solving skills to boost your child's confidence with math concepts. The camp will provide your Mathletes an opportunity to practice and strengthen their skills through lessons, group activities, crafts, games, and outdoor activities appropriate to their grade level or personal goals. Mathletes will not only improve your child's mathematic skills, but also teach them how to use those skills in their everyday life. Students are required to bring a water bottle and backpack to class.

  • Chess Camp

    This opportunity is available for students in second, third, fourth and fifth grades, and will take place from June 19-23 and June 26-30 from 10-11:45 a.m. daily. 
    Cost: $200 
    Instructor: Jack Clauser

    A chess set will be provided for each student, but students are encouraged to bring their own chess sets. In this course, students will learn the essentials of playing chess: how to set up the board, the names of the pieces, how each piece moves across the board, and the rules of chess. Students will also learn some classic opening moves, chess notation, and have the opportunity to compete against fellow students.

  • Irish Dance Camp

    This opportunity is available for students in first, second, third, and fourth grades and will take place from July 24-28 from 1-3 p.m. daily. 
    Cost: $150 
    Instructor: Lena McGinley

    Would you like to try Irish Dancing? Irish Dancing is a fun and lively activity! Concepts and skills taught during the camp will include counting, basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture, easy reel and jig steps, and basic ceili dances. Chunking is used in daily lessons along with group and individual activities. Students should wear ballet shoes or their socks.

  • Tennis Camp

    This opportunity is available for students in second, third, fourth, and fifth grades and will take place from June 19-23 and June 26-30 from 2-4 p.m. daily. 
    Cost: $250 for the two week camp (includes a T-shirt)

    Students should bring their own rackets. Tennis balls will be provided. Tennis camp is designed to provide young tennis players a chance to improve their fundamental skills and foster positive character traits such as perseverance, confidence, and good sportsmanship. This camp is suitable for all skills levels, from beginners to more experienced players. The camp will focus on developing players' strokes, footwork, and overall tennis abilities through various drills and exercises. Regular opportunities for match play, singles, and doubles will occur, allowing players to put their skills into practice and develop teamwork.

  • Cheer Camp

    This opportunity is available for students in grades 1-5 and will take place from July 3-7 (excluding July 4) and July 10-14 from 1:30-3 p.m. daily. 
    Cost: $225 for the two week camp (includes a T-shirt)

    Cheer camp will bring out your inner cheerleader! Students will learn cheers, a dance, basic level stunting, and cheer jumps. This will be a fun and exciting way to stay in shape and support your favorite team!

  • Soccer Shots, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten

    This opportunity is available for students in Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten and will take place from July 24-28 from 3-4 p.m. daily. 
    Cost: $100 (includes a T-shirt provided by Soccer Shots)
    Instructor: Soccer Shots

    Soccer Shots utilizes expert theme-based curriculum focusing on soccer skills and positive character traits such as respect, teamwork, and appreciation. Scrimmage play is in each session with a focus on development of understanding positions and rules of the game. No prior soccer experience needed.
