Athletics is an essential part of an Academy student’s education.

Participation in athletics encourages the qualities of teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, commitment and lifelong fitness. Harrisburg Academy fosters a competitive athletics program while still supporting a no-cut policy.
We encourage all students in fifth-twelfth grade to play at least one interscholastic sport, and more than 70 percent of our students do. Students often play sports each season while maintaining a full academic schedule and participating in other co-curricular activities.
Below is a list of sports on campus or as designated through the PIAA Cooperative Sponsorship program:

  • Club Sports

The Academy also offers club sports: fall and spring Youth Swimming (first through eighth grade) and fall, winter, and spring Fencing Club.
  • Sports By the Seasons

Fall is a busy time for Academy athletes. The MS Boys’ Soccer and Cross Country teams play on the Upper Field while the Varsity Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer teams meet opponents on John Crain Kunkel Field. Our Varsity Girls’ Tennis team plays on the adjacent tennis courts. These teams compete against other schools in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District III. During the winter, Louis Lehrman Gymnasium hosts our Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams, competing against area schools in PIAA District III. Students in 9th through 12th grade also participate in PIAA Varsity Swimming. The spring sports season finds our athletes busy again, this time with Varsity Boys’ Tennis, who compete in PIAA District III and MS Girls' Soccer will compete in the spring for the first time in 2020.
