Why I Give
As a longtime history teacher at the Harrisburg Academy I have seen a host of dedicated teachers who have given their time and talents to ensure that each student is encouraged to work to the best of his/her ability. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, a club or special event, the staff works to create a learning environment where everyone is included, appreciated and supported. Now retired, I am so pleased hearing from so many Alumni who are fulfilling their dreams and who attest to the value of an Academy education.

Why I Give
Harrisburg Academy has become my second family. I have worked at HA for 27 years – 17 as the first-grade teacher and 10 as the second-grade teacher. I love getting to know the students and families in the HA community. I enjoy watching the students grow and succeed throughout their years at HA. My colleagues are some of my best friends. They are an amazing support team both in good times and challenging times. I cannot imagine working anywhere else.

Why I Give
When I graduated from the Harrisburg Academy in 1991, I never thought I would move back to the Harrisburg area, let alone find my way back to the Academy as a kindergarten teacher. While my high school experience was positive, my appreciation for the Harrisburg Academy grew tremendously when I became a teacher. I was given the opportunity to work alongside my amazing colleagues. While interacting with many of my former educators, I realized how lucky I was to have been taught by them a few years earlier. Harrisburg Academy teachers are what make the school so special. The relationships that the teachers have with the students and their families is the glue that creates the enriching environment of the school. When I became a parent, it was an easy decision for Peter and I to send our children: Sally, Eleanor & Axel to my alma mater. We wanted our children to be educated by Harrisburg Academy teachers. They are the reason I continue to support the school.

Countless volunteers give of themselves and their time annually, out of love for our students and the distinctive programming we provide. As you offer your precious time to support those programs, community, arts, and athletic events where our students find their passions and aspirations, they in turn share those passions with the next generation of students looking up to them for guidance and leadership. Your gift of time is invaluable to the future of the Academy for generations to come. -

Academy family and community members offer their skills and expertise to our teachers to enrich the classroom experience out of respect and admiration for the futures we help build. As you give your talent to guide our students in their pursuits and enrich our lessons and curriculum with your own experiences and expertise, your leadership and knowledge provide essential real-world skills that enable our students to become leaders. Your gift of talent is essential to the experiential growth of our students at the Academy. -

We raise money to enhance our programs in ways that tuition dollars cannot, and to provide scholarships and tuition assistance to students in need. What ties us to Harrisburg Academy is a shared belief in the educational success of our students, the connections we have with other families and students in the Academy community, and the history we share with our fellow Academy alumni. Our Academy community is not comprised of knots and ends, but ties that connect and grow, expanding our reach and ensuring the sustainability of everything we do with, and for, our Harrisburg Academy students.
